SHREK WEEK 2024: DAY 3

Tim Walz swampdish

By Joseph Lavers

Good morning 🐣

Check out days one and two if you missed ’em.

This just in: Prince Charming and his followers have stormed Far Far Away, causing mayhem throughout the kingdom, including violence, vandalism, and graffiti. They’ve even tacked on a couple handmade letters to convert the name of a local staple, the family-owned “Ye Olde Bootery,” to now read “Ye Olde Hooters.” So we decided to stop by this fine eating establishment to try to take the pulse of the crowd.

In past years we’ve baked a mouth-watering onion tart (“Ogres are like onions… Onions have layers. Ogres have layers.”) and spicy gingerbread cookies, but for this year’s SHREK WEEK we’re letting someone else do the meal planning. You see, if Kamala Harris is brat, then perhaps Tim Walz is Shrek… They have that same folksy charm. Walz made a splash earlier this year posting multiple award-winning family recipes for hotdish, a type of casserole popular in the Upper Midwest. But you know we gotta Shrek it up here at Cinescape HQ, so introducing — again in collaboration with chef Liliana Dawidoff — the new and improved TIM WALZ SWAMPDISH.

Bon appétit!

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 can cream of cheddar soup
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
  • A METRIC SHREK-TON OF GREEN FOOD COLORING
  • 1 package tater tots

METHOD

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil, then:
    • Add beer, onions, and garlic powder.
    • Submerge brats into the pot and reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes.
    • Remove and let cool.
  2. In a separate bowl:
    • Combine remaining ingredients (minus the tots!)
    • Chop up the brats into bite-sized pieces and add to the other ingredients.
  3. Butter a casserole dish, pour the mixture in, top with tater tots, and bake for 1 hour at 350°.
  4. Finally, sprinkle with cheese for the last 10 to 15 minutes of baking, then share it with your loved ones…

See you tomorrow! 💚
