Camp Crystal Lake Orientation Week: Day 1 — Welcome!

By Joseph Lavers

Good morning 🐣

Welcome, camp counselors, to a new year and new beginnings at Camp Crystal Lake!

“Friday the 13th” (1980 • Paramount+, Epix, and on demand • watch the trailer)

I want to address some rumors before we begin.

Yes, Crystal Lake has been closed for many years.

Yes, some strange and disturbing things have happened here in the past.

But that’s all it is — in the past!

Rather I’m excited for our future here together. I’m especially excited to see how all of you will learn and grow during this Orientation Week (an Open House will follow in October).

We’ll be getting to know each other every day this week (from now until Friday), along with the storied history and traditions of Camp Crystal Lake. We’ll also be familiarizing ourselves with our surroundings, attaining swimming and other safety certifications, and learning many other useful and necessary skills to ensure all our campers have a safe and fun time.

If you haven’t had much experience mentoring and supervising youngsters, don’t be intimidated! It turns out their parents are usually harder to deal with. When dropping off their kids for example, parents may be unable to let go and may even lash out at counselors. But don’t lose your heads! We stand firmly 100% by your side if things get uncomfortable. In particular, keep an eye out for Mrs. Voorhees. You might sometimes see her lurking in the shadows, searching for her boy, Jason.

Remember: this is more than just a short-term job. This is an unforgettable experience for both staff and campers alike in a beautiful and secluded paradise, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. We’re truly on our own here, so let’s make the most of it!

Be sure to check your inbox every day until Friday for the latest Camp Bulletin and for any safety updates.

See you tomorrow! 🌲
