Gone fishin’
By Joseph Lavers
Good morning 🐣
Look it’s been a rough few years; I don’t think I’m saying anything shocking or controversial here. But it’s given workers around the world an opportunity to take stock and speak up about their worth and working environments. Lots of industries are still struggling through supply chain issues, abusive customers, abusive managers… so be gentle to one another.
With Labor Day on the horizon, I dug up a list posted last year of some really good “Labor Day Movies That Celebrate the Spirit of the Whole Thing,” ranging from comedies to dramas throughout cinema history. There’s even a movie CALLED “Labor Day” written and directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, and Tobey Maguire, but I’ve never seen it and it has a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, so you know… you’re on your own with that one.
There’s also a promotion this Saturday, September 3, where thousands of movie theaters are offering $3 tickets all day. There are some really good flicks out right now that you can catch up on, as well as some re-releases of movies from earlier in the year and older classics like “Jaws.”
Lastly, Cinescape is going on hiatus for the month of September. Don’t worry — I’ll be back — and I’ve got some fun stuff brewing for October and beyond. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, soak up those last days of summer and please send me any movie recs you might have. You can always reach me at e38b868f8f8ca3808a8d869080829386cd808c8e.
